Mindfulness
Mindfulness is striving to be in the present moment and build awareness about your emotions, physical sensations, and thoughts as well as the surrounding environment. Mindfulness practices or activities can take many forms (i.e. yoga, tai chi, painting, listening, meditating, petting your dog, or walking), but they all allow you to practice being in the present moment and focus on the activity at hand.
Practicing mindfulness in your personal life can have strong impacts in your work life also. The more mindful you are, the more you can strengthen your leadership abilities by:
- Making choices about how you want to respond versus react
- Choosing where you want to put our attention and energy
- Noticing your reactionary patterns and explore why
- Being able to slow down and relax more
- Being more present in your experiences and conversations with others
